Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec

Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec is the oldest existing monastery in Poland (founded in 1044 by Casimir I the Restorer). A trip to this beautifully located place is a perfect opportunity to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and stay in the atmosphere of a medieval abbey.

The monastery was founded after the crisis of the young country, caused by a pagan rebellion and the Czech invasion. The Benedictines came to support the reconstruction of the Church and the country. In 1816 the abbey was closed. Benedictines returned to the ruins of his former abbey on the eve of World War II. After the war the monastery has been reconstructed.

After a guided trip around the church and monastery, visitors can try traditional Benedictine dishes served by the restaurant located in the medieval cellars of the monastery.
