Wadowice, Kalwaria, Łagiewniki

Wadowice, a small town situated 50 km from Cracow, is best known for being the birthplace of Karol Wojtyła, later the Pope John Paul II, who is acclaimed as one of the most influential leaders of the 20th century. Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is one of the most visited the pilgrimage sites in Polnad and Łagiewniki is famed for its Sanctuary of the Divine Mercy associated with the life and activity of St. Sister Faustina.

During our trip you will be able to visit three most important pilgrimage sites in the southern Poland.

The first stop is in Wadowice - the birthplace of JPII, where you will visit places connected to his early life, including the parish church where he was baptised and the house where he was born. You guide will also show you the pastry and sweets shops, which he liked as a boy and the sport areas where Wojtyła played football.

The next stop - Kalwaria Zebrzydowska features the famous 17th century Way of the Cross, lined with shrines, chapels and small churches, picturesquely set among hills and valleys. The sanctuary is visited by approximately one million pilgrims each year. It is famous for its passion plays (the most important are held during the Holy Week (Easter) and on the Ascention Day). In 1999 Kalwaria Zebrzydowska was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

On you way back to Cracow you will visit the Sanctuary of the Divine Mercy and the local convent of the Congregation of Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in Łagiewniki, situated on the sothern outskirts of Cracow.  Two Popes have visited the shrine and millions of pilgrims from around the world continue to come here every year to pay homage to the relics of St. Faustina Kowalska
